Medical Assistant Job Summary

This position plays an important role in providing day to day support of our Providers. Duties include rooming patients, managing patient flow, prepare charts, and ensure completion of super bills. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Works primarily with Chief Medical Officer to coordinate schedule, check in participants, and obtain vitals at each visit.
  • Supports other medical staff as directed, including Physician Assistant providing buprenorphine maintenance.
  • Provides flexible cover over 3 sites in person and other sites via telemedicine.
  • Assists with prior authorizations and other paperwork as directed.
  • Able to perform blood draws and notify labs to pick up specimens when necessary.
  • Performs EKGs as directed.
  • Provides intramuscular injections of medication when ordered.
  • Willing to work five 8-hour days a week (Mon Fri).
  • Prepare charts for future visits including making sure all test results are available as well as outside records if appropriate 
  • Triage patient calls 
  • Review all lab results and ensure that physician is aware of all abnormal results 
  • Review all super bills to insure they are complete and submit to front desk 
  • Prep room and assist with procedures 
  • Room patients for provider as necessary 
  • Clean rooms between patients 
  • Enter orders lab, Rx, and other requisition forms accurately into EMR 
  • Assist with prescription refills 
  • Clean and stock rooms deleting expired supplies 
  • Inventory and order supplies/samples in accordance with established PAR levels 
  • Clean and sterilize instruments as necessary 
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, Compliance and other requirements that may be mandated. 
  • Attends and contributes to regularly scheduled staff meetings 
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures 
  • Demonstrates team effort by completing all tasks requested timely and accurately 
  • Other duties as assigned 

 Prerequisites, Skills & Knowledge 

  • Certification from an accredited training program, current certification for training as documented with certificate and/or CEU's is required 
  • Experience in a medical office preferable. 
  • Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures. 
  • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical practice, 
  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to consumers and families. 
  • Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately 
  • Skill in customer service 
  • Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families. 
  • Ability to effectively relate information one on one to patients and coworkers. 
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedure 
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and experience with EMR preferred 
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. 
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image, 
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks. 
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
